Understanding
Caffeine has drifted to ~250mg/day and your mornings feel scattered. You want to taper to ~100mg and reliably protect one deep-work block before the day gets loud.
Proposed Plan
The taper (about 6 weeks)
- Reduce ~25mg per week (250 → 100). Slow enough to dodge withdrawal headaches.
- Anchor the remaining coffee to one time (mid-morning), not on-demand.
The focus block
- Reserve 90 minutes first thing for one hard thing; everything else waits.
- Phone in another room; a single tab; a visible "in focus" signal.
- Define the block's ONE outcome the night before so you start moving immediately.
Make it stick
- Track both as habits so the streak (and the compassionate pause-day) keep you honest.
- Weekly check: did the taper hold, and did the block survive contact with the calendar?
Side Effects & Risks
- Cutting caffeine too fast → headaches/slump; the ~25mg/week step is deliberate.
- The focus block dies to "just one quick thing" — protecting it is the whole game.
Next Action
Set tomorrow's 90-minute block with one concrete outcome, and drop today's caffeine by one cup.
